Fish and shellfish production of the future
New ways of thinking when it comes to raw materials
Over the past 3–4 years, fishermen have received extremely low prices despite landing high quality fish.
We, in the network, therefore wish to take a closer look at:
- whether there could be new ways of thinking when it comes to raw materials?
- whether we make adequate use of the fish at our disposal?
- whether we are looking in the right direction in relation to markets, and whether there are areas where we could cooperate more effectively, both within the industry and with parties not directly involved with fishing?
This will be done through preliminary interviews and clarification, dialogue with key players about future efforts, involvement of partners, including the holding of two preliminary meetings at which small groups have the opportunity to identify focus areas, the establishment of a development group and the holding of theme/development days.

Study of the potential in brown crab
Brown crab is not systematically fished for in Denmark, but there is great potential for the export of brown crab to China, for example. The project will prepare a global market analysis for brown crab containing information on key geographical areas, product range, quantities and prices, distribution and customer requirements. The results will be presented in relevant journals, and “round table” meetings will be conducted at which relevant participants will discuss: Export of live and frozen brown crab – Idea catalogue “new crab products”.
The project group will then compile and prioritise the work to be done going forward.
